The CECT P168i is a phrase that is often or sometimes used to describe (or in place of) the SciPhone i68 or the CECT i9 (the i68’s upgrade). All of these phones are sometimes also known in some circles or by some sellers as the P168++. (This is very confusing, I know. I don’t know why sellers keep renaming these phones.) This article will discuss some of the notable features (memory, size, dual sim active and standby, java support, etc.) on these mobile phones.
Before I get into any of that though, I need to reassure that both of these phones include the “everything in one phone” features like web browsing, texting, emailing, MP3 / MP4, FM radio, e-book readers, digital camera / web cam, and Bluetooth.
Shake And Tilt Control Or “Swing To The Music”: One of the main reasons that these phones are so popular is that they are considered a cross or the best of both worlds between the original iClone and the shake the to music models like the A88 and the A380i which allows you to change or advance music or media only by shaking the phone. You can also take images to wide screen or from portrait to landscape by only tilting it.
Dual Sim Active Or Standby: Here is where it gets really confusing and why it’s important to understand which i model is being sold (and to confirm with the seller to be sure.) The SciPhone i68 is typically dual sim standby which means that although you can use two different carriers, both can not be online at one time. In essence you just switch back and forth between the two. As long as the sellers are correctly representing what is an i9, this phone has dual sim active which means that both networks can be online at once (without having to shift back and forth between them.) Again, check the item description or just ask the seller to make sure.
Quad Band: Both phones that are typically called the168i support 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz and allow you to switch back and forth between them for coverage that includes most all world wide networks.
Memory: Both of these phones can expand to support a high amount of memory. However, most time’s you’ll see the i9 holding as much as 8GB, while it’s more typical to see a SciPhone with 2 - 4GB of memory.
Including Java Support: What really makes these phones stand out is that they support Java which allows for third party software downloads. Obviously, this opens up a huge amount of gaming and productivity possibilities.
Size: Both of these phones are super small and considered to be mini hiphones, weighing in at about 95 grams. The SciPhone is a bit longer at 114 x 60 x 10mm, while the i9 is one mm wider at 110 x 60 x 11 mm. Both phones are a bit smaller than a one dollar bill.
Price: For the most part, these phones are similarly priced, often coming in well under $150, depending upon the memory included. (Of course, an 8GB model will be more expensive than a 2GB one).
